Help and feedback
Opening the guide
This guide is built into the app, so you can read it without a connection:
- Library, wide window:Help in the sidebar, under Settings.
- Library, narrow window:More (⋯) → Help.
- Settings → Help & feedback → Help.
- The ? button on the player, on Make audiobook and at the top of Settings opens the page about that screen. In Settings it opens at the section you are looking at.
The guide opens on its contents. Search help finds pages by their words; On this page jumps to a heading; Previous and Next at the foot of a page step through the guide in order. In a wide window the contents stay beside the page, and a link to another page opens it there, at the heading it names. Links that name a part of the app, such as a section of Settings, take you there.
The guide follows the app's language: in Spanish you see the Spanish pages, and any page not translated yet shows in English.
Tips
Once a day, from the second launch on, the library opens with a tip of the day: a short note about something worth knowing.
- Next tip shows another one.
- Learn more, where a tip has it, opens the page of this guide it comes from; some tips also have a button that takes you straight to the setting they describe.
- Turn off tips stops them.
Settings → Help & feedback → Browse tips lists every tip, with the Show a tip each day switch at the top.
Hints
The first few times you use the library, a short hint may sit above your books, such as how to select several books at once or how to put them in your own order. A hint goes for good when you choose Got it, or once you have done what it describes.
Settings → Help & feedback → Show hints again brings back every hint you have dismissed.
The welcome tour
The welcome tour runs on the first launch. Settings → Help & feedback → Replay: Welcome tour runs it again.
What's new
After an update, the library opens with What's new: the highlights of each version since the one you used before. See all changes opens the full list, which Settings → Help & feedback → What's new also shows at any time.
Reporting a problem
If something goes wrong, you can tell us from inside the app:
- Settings → Help & feedback → Report a bug, in every version of the app.
- Test (beta) versions also have a round bug button floating over every screen. Drag it out of the way, or press and hold it to hide it until the app next starts.
The report form asks for:
| Field | |
|---|---|
| Summary | What went wrong, in a line. The only field you must fill in. |
| What happened | What you expected, and what happened instead. |
| Steps to reproduce | What you did, step by step, if you know. |
| How bad is it? | It stops me, It's annoying or It looks wrong. |
| Your e-mail | Optional, if you would like a reply. |
| Include this screenshot | A picture of the screen you were on. Your library folder's location is blanked out of it. |
| Include recent logs | The app's recent messages and errors, which help find the cause. View logs shows exactly what would be sent. |
Also sent lists the rest: the app's version, your device and system, how many books are in your library and which voice engine is in use. Nothing is sent until you choose Send, and closing the form asks before throwing away what you wrote.
When there is no connection
A report that can't be sent straight away is kept on the device (without its screenshot) and sent later, when the app can reach the server. Settings → Help & feedback → Reports waiting to send lists them, with Send now. A report that still hasn't gone after a week is given up.
The app's version
The foot of Settings → Help & feedback shows the version of the app you are running, marked Beta in test versions. Mention it if you write to us some other way.
